Psychology Graduate Student Association

The Department of Psychology Graduate Student Association (PGSA) is a student group consisting of officers elected by fellow psychology graduate students at the University of South Carolina (USC). The PGSA’s executive committee currently consists of five officer positions: President; Vice-President; Secretary; Treasurer; and Social Chair. The PGSA represents all psychology graduate students at USC.

The central goals of the PGSA are three-fold. First, the PGSA aims to further graduate student’s academic development by bringing together students working with a diverse faculty on a variety of research projects across the experimental, clinical-community, and school psychology programs.

Second, the PGSA serves as a direct line of communication to department faculty to facilitate a positive graduate student experience at USC, to advocate for graduate students needs, interests, and desires, and to act as a student voice at executive committee and department faculty meetings.

Third, the PGSA aims to promote the general well-being of graduate students by regularly sponsoring a wide variety of social events within the department. Through the organization of social activities, the PGSA seeks to create a harmonious and relaxed community of colleagues and friends amongst graduate students within the psychology department.

Future goals of the PGSA include strengthening valuable ties to the community and working to more closely unite the graduate students by bridging some of the gaps between the experimental, clinical-community, and school psychology programs.

The PGSA meets regularly throughout each semester to discuss ideas and concerns regarding curricula and training, events and planning, and other issues affecting students within the psychology department. Please feel free to send us any questions, comments, or concerns you might have as a graduate student in USC’s psychology department.
